Green Industries Boom Continues
Closed Loop London (CLL), one of the world's leading environmental and recycling companies, has announced a landmark deal that will see it provide food grade recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) to one of Europe's largest bottle producers from its new London Thames Gateway site.
The contract with Nampak Plastics Europe will see 6,000 tonnes of rHDPE delivered to Nampak through CLL's new plant in Dagenham, the first facility in the UK to produce both food grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) and recycled HDPE.
London Thames Gateway offers the largest resource recovery and supply chain opportunity in the UK. This partnership is reflective of the continued growth of environmental technologies and initiatives in the area, something Gateway to London, the region's inward investment and business retention agency, welcomes. The news follows the announcement in March that the £12 million plastic recycling plant would open in Spring 2008 at Dagenham Dock.
Dagenham Dock is increasingly becoming a key regional hub for environmental firms, offering a location that is close to London with a wide range of property types and tenures.
In total, CLL's new facility will take in around 35,000 tonnes each year of mixed PET and HDPE plastic bottles. Marks & Spencer has already announced that it will use the groundbreaking recycling centre to dispose of post consumer bottles from its own waste stream, whilst also encouraging its suppliers to use the recycled PET.
Chris Dow, Managing Director of Closed Loop London said:
"Locating our first facility within the Thames Gateway was a strategic decision. The Closed Loop plastics reprocessing plant provides a local solution for a local problem. The significant volume of waste generated from within and around the Greater London region will supply the facility with input material and the proximity of end users for the output material will ensure we are able to deliver a sustainable and responsible recycling solution. This means post consumer waste needn't be shipped off shore for further processing, reduces UK manufacturer's reliance on virgin raw material and reduces the transportation mileage of post consumer waste and recycled resin."
Aman Dalvi, Chief Executive of Gateway to London said:
"With a range of sites available, particularly at Dagenham Dock, and a growing hub of companies operating in this field, London Thames Gateway is emerging as a leading UK location for environmental and recycling industries.
"We are very excited about the opening of CLL's new Dagenham Dock plant in Spring 2008. This is certain to encourage further investment and interest in the region from other environmental companies."
