UK Snacks - Bombay Mix Blooming in Waltham Forest
UK Snacks Ltd, one of the top savoury snack producers in the country, has completed its move from the Olympic Park site to brand new freehold premises in Waltham Forest.
The company's relocation to a 30,000 square foot self contained manufacturing unit in the newly built Golden Business Park is a big boost to the local and regional economy and is expected to lead to the creation of up to 15 new jobs in the near future.
The 165,000 sq ft business park in Orient Way is one of three parks built by the London Development Agency for businesses relocating from the Olympic Park.
The relocation to the Golden Business Park provides UK Snacks with the added floor space that the company needs for retail and bulk packaging facilities. It also provides established access to good local transport infrastructure which will undoubtedly help with logistics issues - not just for deliveries, but also making it easier for UK Snacks staff to get to work.
Set up by Gulam Ahmed Nazir in 1972, UK Snacks has grown from providing Asian savoury products to the local markets in Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, to being one of the UK's market leaders in the manufacture, packaging and distribution of Asian foods. The company encourages staff to increase their skills, either by way of internal progression or providing assistance where relevant to take on local apprenticeships.
In the past 25 years, UK Snacks has significantly contributed to introducing the now favourite savoury snack ‘Bombay Mix' into the mass UK market. Other specialist products include salted peanuts, salted cashews, honey roasted cashews, dried mixed fruit and salted almonds. UK Snacks also manufacture and package ranges of bespoke specialist savoury products for well known clients.
Manny Lewis, Chief Executive of the London Development Agency, said:
"UK Snacks' move shows how the benefits of the 2012 Games have already spread to regenerate parts of London. We built Golden Business Park on the basis that companies moving from the Olympic site would have first option. I am delighted UK Snacks has taken advantage of this and their new unit has been purpose built for their operation.
"It signals a renewed phase of growth for UK Snacks after 20 years of leading the UK market in Indian savoury snack cuisine."
Gateway to London's Chief Executive, Aman Dalvi, who played a key role in facilitating the company's move to Waltham Forest, said:
"We were able to use our experience of helping companies relocate within the wider London Thames Gateway region to help UK Snacks achieve their relocation objectives. Now that they are settling in to their fabulous new premises, we can be confident that their growth plans will benefit the local economy. We're here to help local companies make the right relocation decisions and we are delighted to be here today to share in UK Snacks launch celebrations".
Mr G A Nazir, owner of UK Snacks Ltd said:
"Gateway to London was right at the heart of discussions between us and the London Development Agency, playing a very important role during the deliberations and agreements. The joint efforts of the London Development Agency and Gateway to London have enabled us to move our business forward and grow."
