Voltaic gets Olympic opening
Double gold medal Olympian James Cracknell was the guest of honour at the grand opening of Gazeley's "Voltaic", a new 232,965 sq ft (21,643 sq m) EcoTemplate high bay warehouse development built on a previously derelict brownfield site at Dagenham Dock in the heart of Thames Gateway London.
Joined by Gateway to London Chief Executive Aman Dalvi and Gazeley Development Director James Behrens along with several of the region's business leaders, Cracknell unveiled the new £27 million warehouse facility which was built in a sustainable manner using Gazeley's pioneering EcoTemplate design model. EcoTemplate warehouses reduce the negative impact of the development on the environment and generate a significant amount of clean energy to power the building, which is totally in line with the Government's drive to combat climate change.
When fully operational Voltaic will prevent a total of 102.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the earth's atmosphere each year. This is equivalent to the amount of carbon released by 68 UK households per annum.
Voltaic demonstrates the changing nature of the offer for businesses looking to locate into Thames Gateway London. As one of the leading industries in the area with the greatest demand for large space, logistics companies now have access to facilities which include the latest environmental technology to help reduce pressure on the earth's natural resources and all at no extra rental cost to the incoming occupier, a direct reflection of Gazeley's long-term commitment to sustainable development - "treating the planet as if we intend to stay".
Voltaic is also strategically located with immediate access to the new A13 at Goresbrook Interchange, only 6 miles from Junction 30 of the M25 and 15 miles from the Port of Tilbury to the east. Gateway to London is delighted with the opening of Voltaic which will extend the offer that we have for businesses in the Thames Gateway London area even further.
