ExCeL central to 2012 Games

London's ExCeL exhibition and conference centre is set to play a key role in the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, hosting the largest range of sports events outside the Olympic Park.

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has revealed it will display its application for planning permission at the venue this month.

Sebastian Coe, LOCOG Chairman said: "ExCeL is an important venue for the London 2012 Games. It will host seven Olympic and six Paralympic sports making it one of the most exciting places to be in 2012.

He continued: "It is also just 15 minutes from the village which demonstrates our commitment to make the London Games compact and accessible to athletes and spectators alike." 

ExCeL is on the Docklands Light Railway and is close to the Jubilee Line and London City Airport.
