Olympic Park Recognised for Sustainable Standards

Receiving recognition for its green standards at the recent ConstructingExcellence National Awards, the Olympic Park was awarded the Legacy for Sustainabilityaccolade for meeting environmental goals set out by the Olympic DeliveryAuthority (ODA).

Minister for the Games Tessa Jowellsaid: “The London 2012 Games is an iconicproject taking place at a time when the world is faced with the global challengesfrom climate change.

That's why they must be more than justsix weeks of sport; they must also provide a blue print for sustainable workingand living.”

According to the ODA, 90 per cent of construction waste is being directed fromlandfill for reuse and recycling, while around 4,000 trees have been planted onsite. Reduced vehicle movement as a result of delivering 60 per cent ofmaterials by rail or water transport will also cut carbon emissions.
