PR Manager on the Run!

On course to raise money for the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF), our PR Manager Georgina Chahed will be running the London Marathon on 26 April 2009. Supported by her colleagues, she is urgently appealing for contributions from businesses and individuals to help her meet her £1,500 target.

Georgina's journey to prepare for this challenge has seen her overcome hurdles such as arctic road conditions and illness. Since it began, the number of people crossing the finishing line has grown from 6,255 in 1981, to a staggering 34,497 in 2008 - many of them from London Thames Gateway. Canary Wharf's vibrant renewal on the Isle of Dogs in the 80s and 90s has led to slight variations in the route over the years but the start on Blackheath Common and Greenwich Park has always remained constant.

BAAF is the UK's leading adoption and fostering charity - finding families for over 400 children a year, campaigning for children's rights, and providing advice and training for all those involved with adoption and fostering.

There are just over 80,000 children in care in the UK and every year 4,000 children need new permanent families. Children's early experiences shape the rest of their lives and without a permanent family they face an uncertain future.
