London 2012 Media Centre to Bring Over 8,000 Jobs to Hackney

Gateway to London is looking forward to being a major player in the delivery of the Olympic Legacy.  The international broadcast centre and press centre for the London 2012 Olympics will be transformed into mixed-use office and business space after the games, providing more than 8,000 jobs in Hackney.

Chief Officer, Inward Investment, Gill Marshall, said: "Gateway to London is looking forward to working with its partners and the new Olympics Legacy Body to ensure the media centre reaches its full potential as a key business location for London's strong creative sector".

Construction is expected to start on the cleared site next spring.

Start on Construction 2012 Aquatics Centre Goes Swimmingly

Construction on the Aquatics Centre for the London 2012 Olympics has started two months ahead of schedule, the ODA said this month. Installation has commenced on the foundations of the Aquatics Centre in the form of over 2,000 concrete piles in the ground, which should be completed by the end of the year.

ODA chairman John Armitt said the venue for swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo events "will undoubtedly be the iconic building on the Olympic site". It will have two 50-metre pools, hold 18,000 spectators during the 2012 Games, and 6,000 afterwards, when it will become a public facility.

The plans for the main hall have been finalised, barring a decision over wood cladding, and the ODA is still assessing what form the temporary structures for the additional seating should take.
