Appointing an agent to work on the firm's behalf can often be a good move, but take care to ensure they are part of a RICS-qualified firm of chartered surveyors. They will be also able to provide independent advice on size, type, form of tenure and location of premises that best suit particular needs. It is important to develop a good working relationship with these contacts as they have the potential to save their clients a lot of time and money. Make sure they completely understand what they are expected to do and when they are expected to do it.
Review all the options
Once all the information has been collated, try to shortlist commercial property that is worth investigating further and those that can be discounted at once. If this process delivers few - or no -feasible options, then contact the surveyor or Gateway to London again to refine the starting requirements, as some amendments to the original specifications may have to be made.
Get further information and arrange property viewings
Once there is a good list of property options to review, arrange as many viewings as possible with the agents. Gateway to London will happily arrange this for clients, as we have excellent links to most of the agents in the area. Bear in mind that it is always best to have a range of options on offer: it's probably best to have a first and second choice site to take forward at this stage so if one falls through, there will immediately be another to fall back on. This will improve the prospects of a successful outcome to the search.
