Commercial Opportunities
Business Opportunities arising from London 2012 will reach across a vast range of sectors offering all kinds of businesses to find new trading partners, enter new markets and compete for contracts as well as showcasing themselves to an audience of four billion potential customers around the globe.
Recent Olympics have proved to be significant economic drivers for businesses located nearby - New South Wales businesses alone won over AUS$1 billion in contracts for the Sydney Games in 2000, while the neighbouring state of Queensland won the equivalent of £150 million worth of work relating to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The construction industry will be at the epicentre of the delivery of the Olympics, with more than 6,000 workers expected to be on site at the peak of construction, meeting the demands of the £8bn infrastructure works. Manufacturing, business tourism and hospitality will also benefit from the games providing vital supplies and a long-term boost to London's economy.
Procurement of Contracts
Contracts will be awarded by both the ODA, who are in charge of contracts related to infrastructure, transport and construction of the Olympic Park, and LOCOG, who will let contracts for services to deliver and stage the Games. Most of LOCOG contracts will be tendered from 2009 onwards. Additionally, the London Development Agency (LDA) will let contracts enabling demolition and remediation works.
All tender opportunities above EU thresholds will be publicised through the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
The London 2012 Business Network
The business network is the central point of contact for all business related information and enquiries surrounding the games. The website keeps companies up to date on the latest news, contracts and procedures, along with upcoming events.
