The Government's focus on the region and increasing investment, has significantly increased the variety of housing on offer in London Thames Gateway and this is set to continue. London Thames Gateway offers accommodation to suit all lifestyles and budgets, across a range of tenures, and in a variety of locations. Large family-sized units, one and two bedroom apartments, affordable and shared ownership housing, and social rented accommodation are all in good supply.
Building a better future for local residents, notable developments in the pipeline include major new schemes in South Dagenham and Barking Town Centre as well as plans for 11,000 new sustainable 21st century homes at Barking Riverside, www.barkingriverside.co.uk, one of the UK's largest brownfield development sites. The scheme, which recently received planning permission from the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, has already begun on site.
Meanwhile, in Newham, the Silvertown Quays development, www.silvertownquays-london.com/ has also recently been granted planning permission. The 24 hectare waterside scheme will create a new town centre on the River Thames, with 5,000 new homes, plus an abundance of shops, restaurants, leisure and social facilities. One of the largest single regeneration schemes in Europe, Silvertown Quays will also include Biota! - a world class aquarium, run by the Zoological Society of London.
